About the Program

(Not Eligible for Financial Aid) This certificate is designed to teach students the basic Linux administration skills applicable to the Information Communication Technologies (ICT) workforce. Students that complete this certificate have the skills necessary for entry level Linux administration, and provides the foundational knowledge for industry certifications.

Program Learning Outcome(s):

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of system architecture by determining and configuring hardware settings, booting the system, changing runlevels/boot targets, and shutdown or reboot system.

  • Manage packages and updates by using Debian, RPM, and YUM package management.

  • Select and use GNU and Linux commands by processing text streams using filters (e.g., cat, head, tail, sort, uniq, grep, sed), pipes and redirects, manage, edit, and search files using regular expressions.

  • Be capable of more advanced management configuration including user and group management, localization,accessibility, services, networking, security and automation of administrative tasks through shell scripting.
