This course serves as an introduction to the theory and practice of audio production for radio, television, film and digital recording applications. Students will learn the fundamentals of sound design and aesthetics, microphone use, and digital recording equipment. Students gain hands on experience recording, editing, mixing and mastering audio. This course focuses on the relationship of theatre to various cultures throughout history, and on the contributions of significant individual artists. This course discusses elements of the production process including playwriting, acting, directing, design, and criticism. Students will also survey different periods, styles and genres of theatre through play reading, discussion, films and viewing and critiquing live theatre, including required attendance of theatre productions. Students will become familiar with the power of film to influence popular beliefs and attitudes. This course introduces students to the process of producing video and audio recordings of live musical performances. Students will work as the television studio crew recording live musical performances and will learn basic techniques including lighting, sound recording, video directing, camera operations, and production planning.
